Year 4 Term 1, Week 8

Week 8 - This is our first Inner West Homeschool group excursion this year and it was an amazing day out for everyone. We went to Jurassic World by Brickman exhibition at the Australian Museum. It was a two hours session of free play and interactive exploration, followed by a picnic at Hyde Park with everyone. It was quit amazing to see how kids of all ages interact with each others and learn to socialise in the environment where they are not defined by their ages or year group. They were all there to learn and have fun in their own ways. We continue to read Chapter 16 & 17 of Charlotte's Web, we are almost finishing the book. Both Mali and I agreed that we will only watch the movie after we have read the entire book. A few pics from her snack break (opportunity to read at the same time! 🤣) Mali has shown a lot of interest in learning how to draw Manga lately. She was determined to self taught by practicing rather than attending a formal drawing class....

Year 4 Term 1, Week 7

Week 7 - Now that we are seven weeks into Homeschooling, we begin to enjoy our freedom and flexibility on how we learn and what we learn that is most effective and fun! We started the week with Math problem solving activity which Mali really enjoy. It was a bit of a challenge to get Mali to understand that to solve problem, she needs to first understand what is the question asking and then working out the solution in a logical steps rather than focusing on the correct answer. It is part of learning practical Math which we apply to our everyday living. As for English, Mali was very proud of herself to have read more than 15 chapters of Charlotte's web so far. There are 22 chapters in this book and we are more than half way there! Mali also get a chance to learn how to write more descriptive text. This week history/art lesson, Mali did a research on interesting person from the past and she had chosen  Hilma af Klint, you can see her poster here This week Science, we continue to...

Year 4 Term 1, Week 6

Week 6 - We are doing a lot of outdoor and visual learnings this week. We started our week on Sunday at the Hyde Park Barracks self guided audio experience so Mali can learn more about Australian history and how the convict colony impacted the life of indigenous peoples after they have arrived. We had a lot of fun learning this week Maths through various methods such as online interactive quiz, visual drawing and a lot of games 😁 As for English, we read 4 chapters of Charlotte's web (upto Chapter 13 now) and working through chapter summaries verbally so Mali get a chance to practice Story retelling skill. Mali also weaved Rainbow web to add to her Charlotte's web display 🥰 We also learnt a lot of new vocabulary through game this week.

Year 4 Term 1, Week 5

Week 5 - We have made it half way through Term 1 now yay! The rain continued all week so our HS weekly catch up was cancelled. Apart from our twice weekly swimming lessons, most of our activities were indoor. This week we did some sample work on "Story retell" so Mali spent a bit of time planning and created a funny book with some texts and illustration of the "Life of Wilbur" so far 😂 Then the usual English work... For Science, we learnt about Volcano....Mali did a beautiful diagram using Drawing Desk software instead of doing in on a construction paper. Mali also did an introduction to coding using Scratch. We will download ScratchJr app so Mali can start learning some basic coding blocks. We continue to learn more Fractions and introduction to basic Division in preparation for Long division procedure to come over the next few weeks. We also went to the library this week to borrow a few more books and Mali have found the entire section on Manga!! She continues t...
