We had a very busy start to Term 2 with a full day excursion at the Royal Botanical Garden on Wed 27th April 2022 oragnised by SHEN. There were 35 kids and parents attended so it was a great day of fun and learning for everyone.
Program details:
10-12 pm: Plan Bee
The Sydney area hosts over 200 amazing native bee species, vital for pollination and ecosystem function. Stimulate curiosity about these amazing pollinators in this dynamic hands-on workshop and engaging presentation aligned to meet NSW Science & Technology and Geography syllabuses for Stage 1, 2 or 3.
This is a special new program run by Kids Connecting Nature and has a different format to other Royal Botanic Garden excursion programs. For each 2-hour booking you will receive approximately 1.5 hours of face-to-face presentation and workshop, and are given approximately 30 minutes for a self-guided walk of the nearby gardens to look for bees and complete pollinator-related activities. A map and activity resources will be provided for the self-guided part of the excursion.
1-3 pm: Connection and Country
This program is a unique opportunity to learn about the culture of the local Aboriginal people, the Cadigal people. Aboriginal Education Officers will provide a personal perspective offering how Indigenous people of the Sydney area used plants for food, medicine, tools and weapons, giving students the opportunity to meet and interact with members of our Indigenous communities.
We continue to adjust and modify EUKA learning program to suit Mali and added new ways of learning into our day. Mali particularly enjoyed doing reading comprehensions and prefer to answer the question verbally instead of writing. She finds multiple choices questions helpful also.
At this stage, we are are try to encourage Mali to read books for her own enjoyment and build up her reading speed while expanding her vocabulary. This term, her main novel is The Travelling Bookshop Mim and the Woeful Wedding by Katrina Nannestad. She enjoyed the first few chapters so far, the book has great amount of illustrations which is a bonus!
Mali also had a chance to catch up with a few of her old school friends due to Teacher's Strike on Wed 4th May which was great for them to hang out and enjoy outdoor fun!
