Year 4 Term 1, Week 4

Week 4 - It has been raining everyday this week which is not ideal for our weekly homeschool catch up. Fortunately, Katie has offered to host a small gathering at her house which was great. We also had a chance to discuss future excursions and workshops for the kids and it looks like our very first Inner West homeschool group excursion will be at The Australian Museum so the kids can visit Jurassic World by Brickman which should be fun.

This week, we decided to mix things up a bit and do a bit more "hands on" learning rather than completing one worksheet after worksheet....Mali definitely enjoy more interactive learning than doing worksheets!😂

Starting of this week with Learning Fraction using Lego was fun. Mali was able to learn simple fraction using Lego pieces.

We also play some game on more complex Fraction and see who can collect the most counters at the end of the game.

We continue to read Chapter 6 & 7 of Charlotte's web.

and learning some English grammar, hand writing practice & reading comprehension.

For Health, Mali did Grocery treasure hunt by food group with her Nanna at Coles.

As part of Mali's learning about the Science of growing plant, her Garlic and Pumpkin plants seem to be growing very well. Without Nanna's help, I am not sure if they would have survived!

Week 4 - Work Sample on Information reporting was one of Mali's most favorite task this week. She did some online research on Bees and decided to present her fun facts about the topic using an online program called Canva. She really enjoy creating information poster with a lot of beautiful graphics. Her computer skill is quite impressive, she did the entire project on her own. If you would like to view it online, feel free to check it out HERE

For Art, she is creating Pablo Picasso inspired artwork using collage and contrasting techniques. She had her headphone on with her favorite song and sang her heart out while creating her art. It was quite funny to watch but at the same time I am just so happy that she finally gets to learn and create in her own way with no restriction like school setting 😜

Year 4 Term 3 - Week 7 & 8

Week 7 & 8  Mali has read 2 novels this term so far so as a treat, we chose an ebook from the library that I can read to her. She really enjoyed being read to and simply follow the words and find out new vocabulary and discuss storyline together. We decided on Stunt Kids by Trent Roberts. We have read 5 chapters so far this week. Mali continues to do her reading comprehension workbook independently. Science & History - we have decided to incorporate more independent learning when I am away. Mali will complete her assigned tasks via email and send an email to me when she had completed her tasks. It's a great way for her to spend some independent time while staying with her Nanna. Math - Art - some sample of Mali's digital drawing.

Year 4 Term 1, Week 5

Week 5 - We have made it half way through Term 1 now yay! The rain continued all week so our HS weekly catch up was cancelled. Apart from our twice weekly swimming lessons, most of our activities were indoor. This week we did some sample work on "Story retell" so Mali spent a bit of time planning and created a funny book with some texts and illustration of the "Life of Wilbur" so far 😂 Then the usual English work... For Science, we learnt about Volcano....Mali did a beautiful diagram using Drawing Desk software instead of doing in on a construction paper. Mali also did an introduction to coding using Scratch. We will download ScratchJr app so Mali can start learning some basic coding blocks. We continue to learn more Fractions and introduction to basic Division in preparation for Long division procedure to come over the next few weeks. We also went to the library this week to borrow a few more books and Mali have found the entire section on Manga!! She continues t...
